Equipment

  • large container or bowl

Ingredients

  • 4 cucumbers
  • 1 small onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic peeled and crushed
  • 2 tbsp fresh dill
  • 6 cups water
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 cups white vinegar

Instructions

  • Peel and slice your cucumbers so that they are about 1/4" thick and place them in the container.
  • Cut the onion in half and thinly slice it. Add the slices to the container with the cucumbers.
  • Peel and crush 3 garlic cloves and add to the container.
  • Rinse and roughly chop the dill and add to the container.
  • In another bowl or a large liquid measuring cup add 2 cups of white vinegar. Add 1/3 cup sugar directly to the vinegar and stir to dissolve. Dilute the mixture with 6 cups of water and pour over the vegetables in the container.
  • Move the container to the refrigerator and let it soak for several hours before serving. The salad can be stored in the refrigerator for several days and enjoyed.

Notes

Be careful of the container that you choose to store your cucumber salad.  A plastic container will absorb the smell of vinegar and onions, but glass will not.
